June 2006:
Groundbreaking!
The First United Methodist Church of
Rockwall held a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday, June 25, 2006 for the
new Elizabeth Cameron Christian Education Building. The ceremony was
conducted by the new senior pastor Rev. Joe Pool. Representatives from
all of the church's organizations participated in turning the soil for
the new construction site. Participating in the ceremony was the
building’s namesake Mrs. Elizabeth Cameron. Mrs. Cameron has been a
church member since 1931. As the 46th member of the church,
she has participated in the growth and movement through three church
locations. Education has always been close to Mrs. Cameron’s heart as a
former teacher, nursery volunteer, and Sunday school supporter.
The 40,000 square foot building will
provide 20,000 square feet of immediate classroom space and 20.000 of
future growth space on the second floor. Adult Sunday School classes
currently meeting at Utley Freshman Center will be able to meet in the
new facility. Space will also be provided for the Ark Preschool.
Construction of the building is expected to take nine months.

Elizabeth Cameron Christian
Education Building
By unanimous vote the
Coordinating Team approved the recommendation of the Transition and
Building Teams to name our Phase Two Building the Elizabeth Cameron
Christian Education Building. Because of the generous gifts of land
by Raymond and Elizabeth at both the Goliad site and our new home on
Yellow Jacket Lane, their commitment to the Christ in word and deed, and
the numerous connections and friendships they have reaching generations
of persons makes this a fitting tribute to honor Elizabeth. The
announcement of this naming was made to the congregation on December 19,
2004 at the three morning services. In the coming months a renewed
effort to reach our newest members, recast the vision to entire
congregation, and additional creative means to reach the membership of
the congregation will help make the Elizabeth Cameron Christian
Education Building a reality. What a joy it is to know that our second
phase has a fitting and apropos name to go along with it. Thanks be to
God!
