Willis Ray “Bill” Abbott

November 4, 1935 – April 20, 2026
Willis Ray Abbott, lovingly known as “Bill,” age 90, of Rockwall, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, surrounded by his family and those who loved him most.
Bill was born on November 4, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, to Carl and Ruth Abbott. He was the eldest of four children and a devoted older brother to his three sisters. On April 16, 1955, he married the one and only true love of his life, Mary Marcella Middleton. Together they built a life grounded in faith, love, and family. He spoke often and proudly of his five children and found immense joy in his ever-growing family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren—too many to count, but each dearly cherished.
Bill’s life was marked by dedication, hard work, and perseverance. He pursued career opportunities that led him to relocate several times, ultimately achieving his dream of owning his own company. Through determination and vision, he built not only a successful career but a legacy of integrity and leadership.
A man of deep faith, Bill faithfully served First United Methodist Church in Rockwall for nearly 50 years as a Sunday school teacher, in various small groups, as a Lay Leader and as a member of the choir. He was a proud 32nd degree Mason for more than 60 years. Outside of work and service, Bill had a passion for travel and greatly enjoyed exploring new places with family and friends. He was an avid golfer who spent countless hours on the course and continued his involvement in the game by serving as a marshal at his local golf course until very recently. He also had a lifelong love of racing, especially the Indianapolis 500, attending more than 70 races over the years—a tradition he treasured.
Bill is survived by his children: son Ray Abbott and wife Beth of Rowlett, Texas; daughter Kari Simonitch and husband Mark of Rockwall, Texas; son John Abbott and wife Tracy of Rockwall, Texas; daughter Mary Jane Box and husband Eric of Garland, Texas; and son Bill Abbott and wife Debbie of Union Valley, Texas. He also leaves behind a large and loving legacy of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, all of whom he held in high regard and remained closely connected with throughout his life.
He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Mary, his lifelong partner and greatest blessing.
Bill will be remembered for his steadfast friendships, many of which spanned decades and miles across the country. No matter where life took him, he formed meaningful connections and held onto them, valuing each relationship dearly. He will also be remembered for his sense of humor and his gift for storytelling, often drawing from his remarkable memory and attention to detail to vividly recall childhood moments and life stories that he shared with great joy.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Rockwall, Texas (75087).
Bill’s legacy lives on through the family he adored—his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—who will carry forward his values of love, faith, and dedication. He will be greatly missed and remembered in our hearts until we see him again in heaven.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Scottish Rite Hospital.
