First United’s Adult Ministry provides a place for men and women to learn, grow, serve in faith, and build friendships.
Our adult ministry consists of Sunday school, small groups, Bible studies, and other opportunities. Take a look around and find what fits you best.

Adult Sunday School
Located in both Building A and Building B | 9:30 AM
BECOMERS – Singles & Couples, Age: 60+ | RM 213 A
The Becomers have a rotating teaching format with scriptural-based lessons and contemporary issue discussions to help further their spiritual walk in meeting the everyday problems and stresses of life. They are an active group within this church and are involved in many mission projects. They are a social group of mostly empty nesters. Everyone is welcome!

CHALLENGERS – Singles & Couples, All Ages | RM 121 B
The Challengers are a family oriented, caring, friendly, loving, praying group. The class time is a combination of Bible study and prayer requests. We focus on reading and discussing God’s Word and applying it to our every day life. Being the hands and feet of Christ we collect food to supply weekend meals for students through the Boys and Girls Club.

FOUNDATIONS – Mostly Couples, Age: 30-40s | RM 110 B
This class is a loving group of people with elementary and preschool-aged children, created to serve as a spiritual foundation for each individual, their children, and each other. They study a breadth of topics from Christian parenting and scriptural studies to discipleship. The fun does not stop in class; Foundations regularly participates in fellowship opportunities with and without their children! This class seeks to grow together in faith and relationship, serving as sounding blocks, friends, support, and a place to continue to be spiritually fed.

HARMONY – Singles & Couples, Age: 65+ | RM 120 B
Members of this class seek to enhance their understanding of God’s Word through Bible studies led by rotating teachers. Contemporary issues are addressed in light of the Scriptures and current Christian literature. The class enjoys social activities, supports numerous mission projects, and is dedicated to serving the Lord in all ways.

J. E. WILSON – Singles & Couples, Age: 70+ | RM 123 B
The class format is typically Bible study lessons led by class members. Class members have an active social and Christian service agenda as well as provide support for the Society of St. Stephen, the Methodist Children’s Home in Waco, and other missions.

JOURNEY – Singles & Couples, Age: 55+ | RM 212 A
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8.12. The focus of this class is to use biblical and Christian principles as the foundational lessons to encourage each other throughout daily living. Lessons are member-led and discussion is encouraged. The hope is that through studies in this class, members will learn more about Christ and to become more like Christ in our daily walk in this life.

We focus on how these experiences might relate to our current world. Class is mostly 60+ couples who share our daily joys and concerns around family, children and aging, while we seek to contribute through our missions and service focus. Key Programs: Angel Tree, Shoes for Kids, Golf Tournament, & Kids Against Hunger.

The Rock Class enjoys meeting with each other to grow and learn together. We support each other as we work to figure out what it looks like in today’s world to be faithful to our families, our friends, in our work places, and in our communities. Life is busy, keeping this in mind, our lessons are designed to be engaging for both those who can devote time during the week as well as for those who are not able to study prior to Sunday morning. The Rock is a place for everyone to share their thoughts and experiences in a supportive environment. All are welcome, no matter your life stage or age, to join us as we study and grow together each week.
